Pain is a unicycle

For most people
going downhill means coasting
and not running faster.

Bumps
come and go for everyone.
On a bicycle
people stop, get-off,
and say to their friends,
"that was a fun bump."

Unlike a Unicycle,
a bicycle has gears and options like:
riding with your eyes closed,
turning around to your friends and shouting, "watch out for those bumps!"

On a Unicycle, the same bumps are there
and you have to peddle through them.
The big ones make you go backwards
and you can't stand up.

But by now I'm so good some don't even see it. When I point it out to friends,
they are envious because modesty can make it look easy.

When I was a child
a Unicycle was a whimsical fancy,
like juggling apples
or filling bubbles with smoke.

It was something that was never meant
for errands like buying groceries,
or tasks such as
running from fires.
