hey dave - have you had your surgery? any results yet? i wish you so much relief and a strong recovery.
surgery is so complicated - full of hope, pain, and that incredibly long path of recovery. i recently had some success with hip surgery, but not nearly as much as i had hoped for. goddamn hope keeps coming back. anyway - here's hope for all that may be going under the knife or needle.

Re: surgery
Fri, January 30, 2009 - 2:12 PMYes! On 1/8/09. The process was pure hell - I swear hospitals have got to be restructured from the ground up. I almost want to tackle the project myself. Anyway, on the 8th day, they finally got my pain controlled. The surgeon is pleased as he can be with what he was able to do. I have perfect colon function after 10 years of having NONE, so that it encouraging. The numnbness and tingling on the left leg is gone. I am wearing a bone growth stimulator and a brace, and using a walker, but am independent and doing just fine. Can't drive until March, however.

Sun, February 1, 2009 - 2:04 PMYay for Dave!
I'm going in on Feb 11th for total disc replacement.
8 days in-patient? Ouch. I too have an aversion for hospitals. How's your pain level now? -

Re: surgery
Sun, February 1, 2009 - 8:02 PM10 days inpatient. It was not until day 8 that my pain was controlled. Speak loudly and clearly if you face the same situation. tell everyone you seee that your pain is not controlled. Sooner or later you will get someone's attention. Discuss this with your doctor beforehand. Tell him my story of a radical ortho surgery with pedicale screws in a hospital thtat closed its doors 7 days later, transfer to an acute rehab center, and having no adequate pain control for 8 days. Tell him you don't want to go through that. And Good Luck! -

Mon, February 2, 2009 - 4:58 AMoh dave, you've been through so much - what an ordeal! i hope you are one of those folks who let's the horrific things in life make you stronger through learning from it in the end. i just hope that you continue to feel better and gain more and more control over your pain. it's good of you to spread your message, helping those of us who are also up against our own hospitals and battles with doctors.
why did the hospital close? -

Re: surgery
Sun, February 8, 2009 - 1:18 PMI was doing so well, and then had a setback when the pain became unmanagable again. I saw the pain doc Friday and we tweaked my meds so as to get control of that again. So onward we go!
