Frida Kahlo

For those who have not seen the brilliant film called Frida, about the life of the Mexican artist, it is one of my favorite films for a variety of reasons.

Just yesterday, my tribe friend Heron posted a photo which I had to snag and put in my photo gallery because I was amazed that I finally found someone who knows what it is like to live inside my body.

When she was young, Frida was in a bus which crashed and she was impaled by a post which broke her pelvis, and had multiple orthopedic surgeries and body casts over a period of years.

Aside from the fact that she simply REFUSED to allow pain to rule her life, she was a very senstive and empathetic soul whose integrity, courage, and strong individual spirit were just unheard of, especially from a WOMAN, in 1930's and 1940's Mexico and then the international arena.

I plan to begin research so that I can read everything she wrote and see every picture she painted so that I can get inside her head. I truly believe it will be therapeutic, and hope that some of you will accompany on my journey. I will post what I find here, and will let you know what I am currently reading so that you can go to the library and grab it to or order something online!

LOVE TO ALL

    Dave,
thank you for your posting. She was a remarkable woman in so many ways. The movie, which I loved, only touched upon her greatness. Salma Hayek was born for the part.
A dear friend of mine, not passed away, kept several prints of Frida Kahlo in her bedroom during her long bouts with cancer. She once told me that if a saint was ever made for pain sufferers it would be Frida.
Curiously, her lovely grand-daughter is almost the spitting image of Kahlo.
    Thanks again.

I'd never heard of that part of Frida Kahlo's life, Dave, but thanks for this. I'm ALWAYS looking for someone who "simply REFUSED to allow pain to rule her life" so I can look up to them, learn from them, and find another sliver of hope in this ever-painful existence.

Either mentally or physically, may we all be freed from this pain someday.

    Peace to all,
    Zanne

The bus crash scene in the film is extraordinary. When it is all over with, the camara pans from above to display the horrifc scene from a bird's eye view, and there is such destruction of property everywhere that it takes you a moment to figure out what has happened.

      And there she lies.

      Impaled by the pole.

This film is a MUST-see for so many other reasons that we should all have it memorized by now LOL!

      This woman had BALLS.
